The lowest altitudes of the mountain are made up of metamorphic schists and gneisses, which are capped by igneous granites. Higher up, marine sedimentary rocks can be found (remnants of the ancient floor of the Tethys Sea that closed after the collision of the two plates). The Yellow Band, a limestone feature visible just below the summit pyramid, is worth mentioning.
